  • Q: Can I name a star?
  • A: Yes. You can dedicate a star to someone special. We offer a Gift Package where we select a special star in the sky and record your Star Name and Star Date. The Gift Package includes a beautiful parchment Certificate, a Sky Chart with your name and the star's coordinates and an informative booklet on astronomy. We publish all names in the astronomical compendium Your Place in the Cosmos©, which is registered in the U.S. Copyright Office.
  • Q: Am I buying the star?
  • A: No. We do not own the star, so we cannot sell it to you.
    This is like adopting the star. This star is associated with that special someone. It is something you can point at to know that there is something special out there for you.
  • Q: Will the scientific community recognize my star name?
  • A: No. We are a private company that provides Gift Packages. Astronomers will not recognize your name because your name is published only in our Star catalog. We periodically print a book called Your Place in the Cosmos © which lists the stars that we have named.
  • Q: Can I return the product?
  • A: Yes. If you are not completely satisfied, you may return your product for a full refund. We want you to appreciate our products and if you are not happy, then we are not happy.
  • Q: Can I order by Mail?
  • A: Sure. Download our order form from here. Fill in the order form and return it to the address listed along with your payment. We will process your order and send it to you.

  • A: Sure. We offer reprints of your documents and you can have them framed if you want.

  • A: We also provide five engraved products. Each of these have engraved the star name and the coordinates. The Christmas Star Ornament is a five-pointed star. We also offer a Heart shaped pendant and Round pendant with a bracelet or a necklace.

  • Q: Can I pick where my star is located?
  • A: You can select which constellation you want you star.
  • Q: Can I request my star to be located in a specific area?
  • A: Yes. Selecting a specific area is a special option we provide. If you have the astronomical coordinate where you would like your star to be, we will search for a star in that area. Generally we can find a star that is nearby.
    This is a special operation that cannot be completed on our Web site. Please email our Customer Service or phone us at 1-800-282-3333 for assistance with this feature.
  • Q: Can I request my star to be located near another star you have named?

  • Q: Can a star be named twice?
  • A: No. We maintain a database of all the stars we have named. Once a star has been named, we will never name it again.
  • Q: How long will the star be named?
  • A: The name is recorded in our book Your Place in the Cosmos©. The book is listed with the US Copyright Office and a copy of the book is stored in a vault in Switzerland. We maintain your name in our database in perpetuity.
  • Q: Is my Star Name "officially" recognized?
  • A: No. We offer our service services as a unique gift idea. All stars are numbered and we offer the gift idea of putting a name on that actual numbered star. The name is recorded in our book Your Place in the Cosmos© and the book is listed with the US Copyright Office. However, the scientific community does not recognize our star names.
  • Q: My package was damaged. Can it be replaced?
  • A: Yes. If you package was damaged during the original shipment, we will send a replacement package at no charge.
    If the package is later damaged or lost, we can replace your documents for a modest charge. Please contact our Customer service at 1-800-282-3333 for assistance.
  • Q: Can I use any name I want for the star?
  • A: You can use almost any name, but we have a few restrictions.
    The name can only be 35 characters in length. Also the name must conform to our Decency Policy which states that the name cannot be obscene or vulgar.
    Except for these restrictions, you can name the star whatever you wish.

  • Q: Will you email my Order Confirmation?
  • A: Yes. We will automatically send you an order confirmation by email to the address you provide when you place the order.
    In addition, when you order is shipped, we will send you a second confirmation that includes the shipment information.
  • Q: I didn't receive an order confirmation. Why not?
  • A: We attempt to send two order confirmations to the email address you provided when you placed the order. If that address that you entered is not valid or if it was incorrectly entered, your confirmation may not be received.

  • A: S/H is our shorthand for Shipping and Handling.
Stars
  • Q: Is there a Constellation that is visible from Australia and the US?
  • A: Yes there are a number of constellations that will fulfill your request. They are the Equatorial constellations. For best viewing from those two locations, we recommend the Equatorial constellations around the spring and autumnal equinox such as Aquarius, Capricorn and Canis Major. For winter and summer constellations, we recommend Orion, Lepus and northern Scorpius.
    From North America, all these constellations are visible at 20°-30° above the southern horizon and are 30°-40° above the northern horizon in Australia.
  • Q: What is the Visual Magnitude and where do I find it?
  • A: Your star''s Visual Magnitude is a measure of the star''s brightness. Magnitude is listed as a value between -2 and +30 with higher numbers for dimmer stars. The human eye can only see stars brighter than magnitude 6. To see stars with a high magnitude, you will need binoculars or a telescope. The Visual Magnitude is printed on your Star Chart on the bottom line.
