Richard H. Bryan was the 25th Governor of Nevada, serving from 1983 to 1989. Born in Washington D.C. on July 16, 1937, he was raised in Las Vegas and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1959. After earning a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, he returned to Nevada to begin his political career.  During his time as Governor, Richard Bryan focused on improving education and economic development in Nevada. He established the Governor’s Commission on Excellence in Education and the Governor’s Task Force on Economic Development, which helped bring new industries and businesses to the state. He also championed environmental conservation efforts, including the creation of the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area. 

Following his time as Governor, Richard Bryan served in the United States Senate from 1989 to 2001. During his tenure in the Senate, he continued to advocate for education and economic development, as well as supporting the rights of Native American tribes and fighting for environmental conservation.
