Bill Clinton (born August 19, 1946)
42nd President of the United States January 20, 1993 – January 20, 2001
Arkansas Governor William Jefferson Clinton defeated the incumbent, George H. W. Bush for the presidency in 1992. He ran on a platform focused on the deficit and economy.
He was born William Jefferson Blythe II in Hope Arkansas. Following the death of his father, his mother remarried, and he took the new family name. He graduated from Georgetown University and won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University. He earned his Law Degree from Yale in 1973.
In 1975 he married fellow Yale Law School graduate Hillary Rodham. Their daughter was born in 1980. He was the first “Baby Boomer” to be elected president and for the first 2 years of his presidency the White House and Congress were Democratic.
His presidency saw the lowest unemployment in modern times, the lowest inflation in 30 years, reduced welfare rolls, and dropping crime rates. The deficit was turned to a surplus and the U.S. enjoyed more peace and economic well-being than in any time in its history.
In his later years, Bill Clinton has remained active in public life and philanthropic efforts. His First Lady, Hillary Clinton, served as a Senator from New York, Secretary of State under Barack Obama, and ran unsuccessfully for president in 2016.
His awards have included Medal of Distinguished Service, Time Magazine’s “Man of The year”, The President Medal of Freedom, The NAACP’s President’s Award, and a 2003 Grammy Award.
